Mandatory travel insurance for all foreign visitors to Tanzania
Every foreign visitor entering Mainland Tanzania now needs the government Inbound Travel Insurance from the National Insurance Corporation (NIC). Travellers without it can be refused entry.
- Cost: USD 44 per visitor
- Valid: up to 92 days, with multiple entries
- Covers: emergency medical care, evacuation, repatriation and lost luggage
- Arriving via Kilimanjaro, Dar es Salaam or a land border: buy NIC. Arriving via Zanzibar: buy ZIC. One policy covers the whole trip.

When is the best time to go on safari in Tanzania?
Tanzania is a year-round safari destination. June to October is the dry season and the best overall time for game viewing. Animals gather around rivers and waterholes, and the short grass makes them easier to spot. The green season from November to May brings lush scenery, newborn animals and fewer crowds.
How much does a Tanzania safari cost?
As a planning guide, expect around $200 to $300 per person per day for a budget camping safari, $350 to $600 for a midrange lodge safari, and $700 to $1,500 or more for a luxury safari. Your final price depends on the number of days, the parks, your accommodation, the season and how many people share the vehicle.
Which national parks should I visit on my first safari?
Most first-time visitors choose the northern circuit. The Serengeti offers vast plains and big cats. The Ngorongoro Crater holds a remarkable concentration of wildlife in one place. Tarangire is famous for its elephants and ancient baobabs, and Lake Manyara shows a greener, quieter side of safari.
How many days do I need for a Tanzania safari?
Four days is enough to see Tarangire, the Serengeti and the Ngorongoro Crater, starting and ending in Arusha. With five to seven days you get more time in the Serengeti and a slower pace between game drives. We tailor the length of every safari to your interests and budget.
Can I combine a safari with a Zanzibar beach holiday?
Yes, and many of our guests do. With 7 days, plan 3 days on safari and 4 in Zanzibar. With 10 days, split it 5 and 5. With 12 to 14 days, you can spend 6 to 7 days on safari and 5 to 7 days on the beach.
