If you are looking for a one-day hike, you can consider taking a 1-day Kilimanjaro Trek to Mandara Hut via the Marangu Route which is A-shaped. This gives you the chance to trek to the first stage of the legendary Marangu Route, through a rainforest teeming with wildlife and chattering, curious blue monkeys. The Marangu Route is the easiest ascent of Mount Kilimanjaro, although any ascent can be challenging. The distance of the Marangu route is approximately 82 km or 50 miles.
Kilimanjaro Climb via Marangu Route typically can be done either in 5 Days or 6 Days but a 7-day Mount Kilimanjaro Climb variation is significantly better. It is recommended that climbers take an extra day to acclimatize at Horombo Hut. The ascent begins at Marangu Gate up the southeast side of Kilimanjaro through the beautiful forest and moorland before passing to the south of Mawenzi and crossing the desolate saddle on route to Kibo Hut. You then ascend to the summit on scree slopes to Gilmans Point and then onto Uhuru Peak.
Please note that this one-day Trek is not a climb to Kilimanjaro’s summit. Visitors can embark on a 1-day Kilimanjaro Trek to Mandara Hut via the Marangu Route, which is the only route on Kilimanjaro where huts are used for accommodation instead of tents. This one-day trek is more of a day hike and does not reach the summit of Kilimanjaro.
This one-day trek allows you to experience a part of the Marangu Route and get a taste of the mountain without attempting to reach the summit. It’s suitable for those with limited time or who want a less strenuous experience.
However, it’s crucial to note that proper acclimatization is a key factor for a successful Kilimanjaro climb. Attempting to ascend to higher altitudes too quickly increases the risk of altitude sickness. Climbers typically take 5 to 6 days on the Marangu Route to reach the summit gradually, allowing their bodies to acclimatize to the high altitude.
If you are considering climbing Kilimanjaro, especially to the summit, it’s highly recommended to follow a longer and more gradual itinerary to ensure your safety and increase your chances of successfully reaching Uhuru Peak.
